Does Inner Freedom lead to Food Freedom or is it the other way around?

Does Inner Freedom lead to Food Freedom or is it the other way around?

What causes the mind to go rouge and do the exact opposite of the thing you want to do? You know, like when you go on a diet and before the day is over you’ve blown it and are left feeling like a failure again. That, what causes that?

Thats your inner game, aka: your subconscious mind/body. It’s job, to protect you. But, protect you from what, doing better in the world? Our past experiences, live in the body, and rule the way you respond to life today. The problem is that those experiences probably have nothing at all to do what you are wanting to do in the here and now. But because they are stored in subconscious mind, they actually rule the choices you are making in the present. Think of it as an inner conflict. In spite of your best intentions to do something, to play bigger, to play better, that powerful subconscious seems to sabotage your efforts every time. And your not even aware of it.

Changing this has nothing to do with mustering up more will power, and muscling your way to success. Seriously, have you been successful, long term, using will power? Probably not.

So how do you make lasting changes?

First things first. The mind has a way of trying to keep you safe. For example, for years my clients would begin a new weight loss program, and ultimately fall right back to doing the same things that got them here in the first place. Thats because most us learned at a young age, that learning something new is scary. What if I fail? Their gonna laugh at me? What if it’s too hard? Those fears are stored in the body, and although we don’t even realize it, it’s those fears that cause us to fail over and over again throughout life.

Next you have to know that the body will give you clues when the subconscious mind is taking over. The problem is you’ve been ignoring the energy of the subconscious for so long, chances are you don’t even feel it. But it’s there. Being willing to tap into it, experience it, and allow it, will give you insight into how powerful it is. Yup, it seems scary right, but seriously, working with me is not so scary, but it is life changing! It’s actually very cool to feel that energy in your body and learn how to use it. Guiding my clients through Inner Freedom is the best part of what I do.

Approaching life from this framework is probably different than what you are used to. Im not going to give you another diet, Im giving you a life changing skill. FYI, I was a little scared when I first started to do this kind of work too. But inner freedom is the catalyst to becoming a great player in every game of life. And thats the ultimate goal to BECOME who you want to become!

The bottom line, the subconscious mind doesn’t want you to be afraid. Thats exactly why it sabotages your best efforts…. It wants to keep you small, and seemingly safe. Food is an easy, legal way to numb you, distract you, comfort you. It doesn’t talk back either, it does the opposite. It convinces you, in the moment anyway, that you shouldn’t feel bad, to go ahead eat ____, you can get back on your diet bandwagon tomorrow. You won’t fail tomorrow, because I, your subconscious, will keep you safe..

My clients break free from that endless loop. My Inner Freedom method will help you feel into the fear that is holding you back from achieving your hearts desires. Its not magic, it’s judgement free awareness. I guess in a way it is magic. Inner Freedom is powerful, and will change your life. You won’t need
will-power to get through life. Inner Freedom leads to Food Freedom, which leads to a healthy, energized, clear life that you live freely and with great joy.

Know someone who would benefit from reading this, feel free to share it.

My personal inner freedom work allows me enough energy to give back to the world. I would love nothing more than to have a easy conversation with people curious. I have spots reserved for just such a conversation with you. Get one now before they are all gone. Schedule NOW

8 Truth’s on How to Lose Weight

8 Truth’s on How to Lose Weight

1. Find your reason for losing weight.

In the beginning the reason may be you have a reunion or vacation or a big event, and thats OK. What ever gets the ball rolling serves the purpose. But eventually, as you get stronger and endorphins kick in, and your getting results, your reason can change. And it can help keep you anchored to your goals, and lifelong fitness dreams. I have personally entered contests that offered money to lose weight and sure, money is motivating, but along the way, as I felt better, my health became the prize. Find your reason, and if you need to, go stand in front of the mirror, turn off the cell, the laptop and TV and just find your reason. Be raw, real and write it down. In some cases your “Why” may make you cry.

2. Set a Goal.
As much as you don’t like the scale, or tape measures, it’s imperative for you to know your starting point. Get a pad or  journal, write down your weight and measurements and ask yourself, what a real measurable goal is. Telling your best friend that you want to look good in a dress is great, but that doesn’t really give you a tracking progress. Name your goal. Is it 20lbs? 30lbs? Pick your number, pick a date, write it down and begin manifesting that goal.

3. Pick your plan.
What do you like to do? Lift weights, ride a bike, run? Find your passion again and if you don’t have one, then start here: Ask yourself what is mostly holding you back from working out. Is it a busy schedule? Is it injuries? Is it time scarcity? Find this answer and then apply it. When you find a workout that works for your schedule and works for your goal and happiness, then you will likely have more success than a plan you don’t like and are just doing it to get through the workout. I like to do a lot of different things, from being outside, to classes, and my favorite is banging out a quick one at home.  If you need helping picking a plan, I can help you with most anything.

4. What are you willing to give up?
In order to get healthy, you will likely need to give up some things. Make a list of all the things that ‘keep you unhealthy’ and reprioritize. Is it junk food around the house that can be removed? Is it friendships that support bad habits? Is it bad time management? What things are sabotaging your goals? Make a list of what you need to change in your daily, weekly, or weekend life; and yes, you may have to let some lunch buddies, or friendships go, for a while. It’s not because you don’t love them, it’s because you love yourself enough to get healthy and you need to get stronger and learn how to say no sometimes.

5. Figure out what got you here and make peace with it.
We all have times in our lives that we gain weight. It may be a new relationship and you kind of let yourself slide. It may be the ending of a relationship and you turned to food or drinks for comfort. It may have been a death, job loss, the birth of a baby, in any case, make peace with what happened and work to turn it around so that you are not continuing on a self-defeating path. Chances are likely, you know how you gained weight and you just need to make peace with it and let it go, so that you can grow.

6. Perfection.
Let go of the perfectionist syndrome. Many people will analyze a program a to death, and try to control the plan, before they even start. Perfectionism is often what keeps you stuck. You paralyze yourself with an overwhelming perfect ‘set up for weight loss’, when all it is, is a perfect set up for failure. Know that there will be days that you nail it, and there will be days that you struggle, but as long as you are making the choices to support your goals each and every day, you are one step closer to that goal. Don’t throw in the towel over one mistake or one pound, get over it and keep moving forward.

7. Find some Fun.
Find a 5K, 10K, a Tough Mudder, a Muddy Buddy.  These are great ways to stay on track.  Shoot for mini goals along the way. All this training can be not only targeting weight loss, but it’s pretty darn exhilarating to cross a finish line. Getting a medal is like getting when you got a ribbon in grade school. Some of us liked the ribbon more; it’s a sign of accomplishment and a tangible pat on the back. And when you shift your focus to a fun sporting event, rather than yourself, you’ll be surprised at ‘how fast’ you lost weight.

8. Find a Support Group.
Yes a weight loss support group! People who take on life change need Coaches, friends, and people in their lives that are on the same path. It’s what keeps you strong when the mind starts working against you. I can’t tell you how many times I have picked up a phone and called a friend walk me off a ledge, and by the time I hung up BOOM, I was hitting my workout hard. Think of it like AA. People there are trying to get healthy and they need support. And being around like minded individuals keeps them strong. Even after doing this for years, I still need and count on my accountability people. That is what support does, it keeps you strong. And, that is what I do, Coach, people like you, who just want to lose weight and keep it off forever.

I hope this helps you become a better player in your fitness game. I have played the game and been up and down the scale, pregnant, injured, depressed, very overweight, in my best fit range for many years now,  our games may be different, but we are all playing to win.

And I hope that this helps you feel okay with where you are and encourages you to maybe take that next step.

Life is a Game, Play to Win!

All I Want For Christmas is to not gain weight!

All I Want For Christmas is to not gain weight!

holiday-weight-loss

Lets be honest… the Holiday season is upon us. For me that means parties, dinners, eggplant parmesan, butter cookies, eggnog, and making everyones favorites…the list is long.

Most of the time people get completely caught up and give up on maintaining any sort of fitness goals during the holidays, or WORSE, they spend the entire holiday season feeling guilty, fat, bad about themselves, and just waiting for the New Year to come so they can start FRESH… Guilt at the expense of ENJOYING the season!

Fads, diets, trends, cleanses, starvation, etc.. NONE of them work. What does work is REAL, SUSTAINABLE solutions, aka: LIFESYLE

Now is not the time to go on a strict diet and try to not eat grandmas pie…. That will only leave you stuffing that desire with a bunch of other crap, until you say screw it. I know, I’ve been there before, and yea, I put ON weight.

I went ON and OFF every “diet” I ever went on. The holidays are part of life. What you need is a Balanced and sustainable solution to YOUR specific situation, needs, goals, desires, etc….

You know exactly what your weaknesses are, where you slip up, and if you’re like me, you know going in to certain situations what is going to happen, even when you try telling yourself, you’re not going to have any of Aunt Sally’s special Christmas cake.

Instead of feeling guilty, beating yourself up, and throwing in the towel, how about we make it work FOR you? What if you could enjoy your holiday parties, holiday treats, a cocktail or 2 (or 3) and STILL stay on track and LOSE weight? Would that be something you’re up for trying?

I’ve been living this lifestyle for years. I do not gain weight over the holidays anymore. I’m going to tell you, and help you do the same! I’ve decided to start a very special small group on December 1st. only about 20 people, very detailed, and very specific to the holiday season.

So don’t put your skinny jeans away for the winter just yet!

Happiness is a learned skill

Happiness is a learned skill

I have this crazy idea! Why not treat happiness as a skill?il_570xN.419402149_jxhn

I mean, we learn all kinds of things in life, right? What do you suppose would happen if you start doing more of the things that make you happy, and less of the other things. For example, I love to read, and for a long time I got away from it. I would sit down at the end of my day, and instead of picking up a book or magazine, I would turn on the TV. The TV distracted me, and I found myself just losing my mind to it. I even told my husband I wanted to get rid of it! Yea, he said you’re crazy! Since getting rid of it is not an option, I went out and bought a good lamp, cleaned my reading glasses, and now, I read.

Making compromises, as you move in the direction of happiness in never a bad thing.

4 Tips to begin.

1. Create a list of all the things that make you smile. Thinking about them  will immediately make you feel better. It can be something in the moment, or a long range plan.

2. Try new stuff. Play with the possibilities and be open to finding new ways to add happiness to your life. You never know what you will discover.

3. Take action to bring happiness into you life. You are in charge of your own happiness. You create the space, make the time, or plan for the future.

4. Guard your happiness. Become aware of the many ways others drain you. Even people you love. Manage how much time you spend with them.

Finally, from the Good Book….. Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Philippians 4:8 The Message

What will you choose to do today that will make you happier?

Clean Eating 101

Clean Eating 101

People are always asking me “how do I lose weight and keep it off”. They want to know my “secret” Why do they ask me???… well because I lost a lot of weight (75lbs) and  I have kept it off … It took time, trial and error, persistence, to get to a place where I am confident and can go places and not fear “blowing” my diet. Because it’s not about a diet, it’s about good nutrition, and life-style, free will, and choice. I still keep a food journal, and pay attention, but I’ve learned what I can and can’t do. It has become my lifestyle….I know how to lose weight and keep it off. I know how to keep it real. For the last few years I’ve been working on cleaning up my food. And let me tell you, it’s made a huge difference. I have very few cravings for crap, I feel better than ever, I have more energy, and I feel like I look good too! WOW… who doesn’t want that?? It’s never too late, you’re not to old, and you are worth taking great care of yourself.

The phrase “clean eating” is being used by everyone. It sounds good, right? So whats the problem, why are you totally confused by what that actually means? I’ll tell you why, because, just like in the diet industry, there is a lot of information, and misinformation out there.

Don’t worry, Clean Eating is not hard. Even if you’re just considering getting started, you can do it. What I offer you is my own experience, and personal opinion on the matter. I explain ways to easily clean up your diet, so you can improve your health and weight. Sound good? Cool, then keep reading.

Clean Eating Isn’t a Diet, It’s a way of life.

It’s not a diet with a bunch of strict rules. There is no food group that is eliminated. Keep in mind that processed, packaged, boxed, and fast foods are not food groups. Clean eating is the opposite of diets like the Paleo Diet, the Atkins Diet, The no carb diets, the Cabbage Soup diet, the Juice Fasting diet, etc.

This is what made sense to me, and for me, and I went from there. I was done with be stressing out, getting confused or frustrated, and I didn’t want to over think every little thing. I just wanted the lifestyle I chose to be simple…. So I set about changing one thing at a time. I really needed this to be simple, and delicious. For me, once I gave up on trying to will power my way to a healthy weight, and I set my self up for eating clean success. Thats when my body changed, my thought process changed, my cravings lessened. I really liked all the energy eating clean was creating in my life. It will become effortless, just not over night. Hang with me, I will help you make simple changes that get results. It’s a process, and it’s only as hard when you resist. I left the diet mentality and bingo…. Here I am, being asked all the time “how do I lose weight and keep it off. Are you ready, I’m going to keep it as simple as possible.

What Clean Eating Is

Clean eating is about eating foods in their most natural state. This means avoiding processed foods, foods with loads of preservatives, foods with lots of added sugar, and foods with high levels of bad fats (saturated fats/all trans fats). It also means avoiding foods that have been stripped of their nutritional value and then replaced with synthetic chemicals to enrich it back in.

My definition of clean eating is just that – this is my interpretation.  These are some of the basic guidelines that work for me in my quest to eat as clean as possible.

  • Eat five mini meals a day. Decide the calorie goal for the day and divide by 5. For example. I eat 1500 calories a day.. 5 mini meals at 300 calories each, keeps my body energized and burning calories efficiently all day long.

  • Have a plan for the days food and have that food available. Write it down, be prepared and be flexible. Life happens, and sometimes its not easy, just make the best possible choice.

  • Eat lots of fresh, local, in season fruits and veggies. Visit the farmers market.

  • Eat healthy fats with every meal (nuts, avocados, EVOO, etc.)

  • Drink at least 2 qts of water each day, more when it’s hot.

  • Eat whole grains, quinoa, brown rice, steel cut oats

  • Bake, steam, saute

  • Eat things that don’t have a package or label, but if you do, learn to read the label. Check serving size.

  • Clean is just 2 or 3 ingredients. Not a long list of things you can’t pronounce.

  • Stay clear of anything boxed, processed, or microwavealbe.

  • Know about portion sizes.

  • Eat slowly, pay attention to the food, turn off all distractions, phone, tv, computer, games, etc….

  • Be prepared, make food for the week, pack a cooler, have grab and go food readily available.

  • Make 4 days meatless meal days.

  • Include your family, healthy nutrition is for everyone. Lead by example. Don’t make a big deal of it, just offer it without saying anything…. You know what I mean, “this is healthy and I want to start eating like this, and bla, bla, bla….. Just prepare the food and serve it 🙂

In a nut shell, eat foods as close to there natural state as possible. Cheese sauce, or 1/2 stick of butter over overcooked broccoli or any veggie, is no longer clean.  Lightly steamed broccoli tossed with olive oil fresh minced garlic and lemon is a better option.

A good rule: keep it simple  keep it healthy.

Choose 80/20

I like to stress this point; clean eating is a process and when done right is healthy, fun, and not depriving at all. Follow the 80/20 rule.

You see most diets have you obsessing about food. The very thing you are trying to stay away from becomes your obsession. Been there, done that, and we know. all to well, that that doesn’t work.

Clean eating is a way of life. Keep it simple, be consistent with your choices, have a plan, and become a food experimentor. Life needs some wiggle room. It’s ok to enjoy a hot dog on Memorial day if you really want it and plan for it. A few bites of cake at your daughters birthday party won’t hurt you either. Thats what keeps it real, and keeps me going. Eating clean is about making the right choices most of the time, and letting it go when and if you choose to have that little indulgence. No stress, no guilt!

The bottom line is, seek progress not perfection. You will make progress, have success, lose weight and improve your overall health as long as you stay consistent more often than not. Trying to be perfect on a lifestyle journey will only set you up for failure, disappointment, and stress.

How to Begin?

Begin by actually acknowledging the way you are currently eating. Realize that getting away from nutrient poor, chemical filled, packaged convenience foods will both improve your health and will save you money! Start by adding more local fresh foods and eliminating the other. Fueling your body with healthier options will actually cost less in the long run. Not only on food, but on time spent in the doctors office and on medications too.

Become a label reader. Lots of so called healthy, all natural, low fat or low sugar items are bad for you. Check the ingredient list, and know exactly whats in there. A long list of things you can’t pronounce, hydrogenated fats, trans fats, and corn syrup (which goes by about 50 different names) should be avoided. If it’s labeled low sugar, it most likely has a lot of fat, and vice versa. The food manufactures have lots of liberty. Do your homework.

When you shop, shop the out side perimeter of the store where you find the produce, and meat sections. The isles are where food/fake food is found. Know which isle has the whole grains like quinoa, rice and oats are down, or shop in a store that has bulk bins for a greater selection.

Make a point to try something new each month. I had temph for the first time about a year and a half ago. I never even heard of it before then. It turns out to be one of my all time favorite foods. And how many times have you looked at a Kabocha squash and wondered what in the world would I do with that? Remember I said “become an experimentor” Commit to trying a new item more than once. Being open to this new lifestyle goes a long way in trying new things.

You can find many cleaned up recipes for old favorites. Just google it. You will be amazed.

Lastly, try different cooking methods. Nutrition in certain food like spinach for example is more easily absorbed by the body if it’s been wilted, not raw or cooked to death. Steaming, broiling, baking, sauteing will reduce the amount of oil and will keep your foods nutritional integrity in tact.

Whats your reason for going clean?

Whats your reason for deciding to eat clean? Many people want to improve their health or reduce their chances of getting certain avoidable health conditions, and diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain cancers. Or they want to reduce joint pain, and be able to move and have more energy.

The number one reason people decide to eat clean is because they want to lose weight. I personally believe weight loss happens in the kitchen. Improving the amount of food, and also the quality of food will have the greatest impact on your weight, over all health and level of fitness. Ridding your body of the chemicals found in a lot of the prepackage foods on the store shelf will do wonders to heal you body and support your life. Eliminate poisonous levels of sugar and sugar substitutes. It’s that simple.
